Head of Worldwide Business Development, Power & Utilities Industry, Amazon Web Services (AWS)
Rolf Gibbels, Head of Worldwide Business Development, has the responsibility for leading the Power & Utilities industry customer strategy, solution definition, partner engagement and thought leadership initiatives. AWS is bringing cloud-based solutions consisting of internet of things (IoT), advanced analytics, machine learning (ML) artificial intelligence (AI), and Alexa Amazon’s digital assistant to a sector facing a transformational change. The transformation is driven by the increase of renewable energy, grid modernization, utilities becoming more customer-centric and the rise in distributed energy resources. Rolf has over 20 years international experience selling and marketing digital industry solutions, asset performance management (APM), product lifecycle management (PLM) and computer aided design (CAD) software to the energy, process, architecture and construction industries. Previously, he built and led the global commercial team for GE Power Digital, and the partner and commercial strategy for GE Digital Renewable Energy asset performance management and predictive analytics solutions. Prior to GE, Rolf was the Industry Solutions Leader in IBM’s Energy & Utilities organization. In this role, he managed solution definition and business development activities with focus on power generation across all IBM businesses (services, software and infrastructure). Rolf holds a master’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Applied Sciences in Munich, Germany.
