After graduating with a Master of Science and Business Administration degree from the University of Karlsruhe, Germany he began working with Siemens as a software engineer and became just four years later head of product management and business development at the Siemens Drives and Products Group.
Starting 1990 he worked as a consultant for business strategy development and restructuring projects and took over the role as general manager for the Low Voltage Circuit Protection Subdivision in the Siemens Automation & Drives Group in 1995.
In 2004 Ralf Christian was appointed President of the Siemens High Voltage Division in the Power Transmission and Distribution Group and served as CEO of the Power Distribution Division starting in 2008. In 2011, he became CEO of the Low- and Medium-Voltage Business Unit.
Christian was the president of T&D Europe (the European Association of the Electricity Transmission and Distribution Equipment and Service Industry) between 2008 and 2014. He has served as a board member of the German Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers’ Association (ZVEI) since 2011 and is the president of its power engineering department.
