Brian Marrs is the Director of Energy Markets at Microsoft, based out of the company’s Redmond, WA headquarters. With more than 10 years of global commercial experience in the energy industry, Brian leads efforts to advance & execute Microsoft’s datacenter energy strategy. He oversees developing energy infrastructure plans, energy supply agreements, evaluating opportunities that support the company’s clean energy goals, and identifying strategic use of new energy technologies in global markets. He also serves on the iMasons Sustainability Committee.


Prior to joining Microsoft in 2017, Brian served as the Director of Policy & Strategy at NRG Energy, the largest competitive power company in the United States. In addition, Brian worked as a power systems economist in the European Union at the German Energy Agency and Vattenfall Europe, and otherwise has extensive consulting experience in quantitative analytics related to international power, oil, and gas markets.

Brian holds a graduate degree in energy economics & policy from Yale University, and completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Virginia.
