Markets on local flexibility, a joint DSO-TSO project

Session

Theatre 6

Energinet must in the Danish transmission grid be able to handle the expansion of new renewable capacity and electrified consumption. 10 years ago the wind-share of the total Danish electricity production was 20 %. In 2017 it had increased to 43,6 %. In 2030 the RE-share of the electricity consumption must be 100 %. RE on market conditions makes it difficult to predict and plan the development of the energy system. Currently, grid enhancement is the basic solution as the Danish balancing markets don’t allow for internal congestion management. Energinet is working towards enabling trade with local flexibility to enable short term congestion management to resolve local bottlenecks, and give longer term incentives to invest in controllability and optimal grid locations for new production and consumption units.
