Meet the projects: FLEXCoop
What do you see as the biggest opportunity for the energy industry?
The energy transition and the decentralisation of the energy system is a fantastic opportunity to re-invent our energy model! This new energy system is using local renewable resources, local workforce to install and maintain new assets, new communication channels between actors including some new ones: developers, ESCos, but also municipalities and citizens. The energy sector is now flourishing with new actors and new roles and that's very stimulating!
What do you see as the biggest threat to the energy industry?
The false antagonism between conservative and innovative actors. We all agree that the system needs to change, but we need to preserve the benefits of our socialised grid, while also inventing models for enabling the energy transition. Market-only solutions will not work as illustrated by the failure to deliver on energy efficiency. We need more involvement from citizen representatives, including through cooperatives, but also local governments.
What are the key topics you will highlight at this year’s EUW?
Innovative business models for Energy Cooperatives. We will talk about Renewable Energy Communities; residential demand response, self-consumption and ancillary services.
